Our review of the Renault Zoé

With over 5,000 units sold, the Renault ZOE can proudly claim to be the best-selling electric car in the history of Spain . Congratulations!

The French brand is a regular at the top of electric car sales lists. In last year’s sales ranking, for instance, it held sixth place (in this link, you can see how the plug-in registrations were in December 2019 and throughout the year).

“In a nascent and newly created market, like the market for 100% electric vehicles, surpassing 5,000 units sold, currently at 5,060, is a milestone in itself,” Renault stated proudly.

In the statement announcing the positioning of its electric vehicle, the brand reminds that the ZOE has consistently evolved its capabilities:

  • From the first units in 2013 to the current units, the range has doubled, increasing from 210 km to 386 km today. And all this without a significant increase in the weight of the batteries on board.
  • Another fundamental aspect that has gradually improved over these six and a half years in Spain has been the versatility and charging speed. In fact, the current ZOE can already charge in alternating current, up to 22 kW, and in direct current up to 50 kW, allowing it to recharge up to 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes.
  • In terms of dynamics, the Renault ZOE has also evolved significantly, adding new, more powerful and efficient motors, which already reach 136 hp.
  • And safety should not be overlooked. With five EuronCap stars, it demonstrates its optimal safety level for all occupants. This is possible thanks to its structural safety and numerous driving aids, such as the rearview camera integrated into the touchscreen.

What your drivers say

Renault has also taken the feedback from ZOE drivers as proof of success.

  • “60 or 70% of people could benefit from it,” they say.
  • They also express its usefulness in carrying out their respective professions in large cities: “it allows you to park for free and access the Central Zone of Madrid.”
  • Others highlight its wide range of 386 km as “something very important” and emphasize that “I use it every day to go to work and charge it once a week.”
  • They also appreciate the versatility of its use, as they say, “I can travel to Aranjuez or anywhere in the Community of Madrid without recharging.”
  • Another remarkable aspect of the ZOE, listening to its users, is its capacity thanks to its 5 approved seats and large luggage trunk: “Child seats and a stroller in the back… and more.”

In short, they emphasize its overall efficiency, through comments such as “I can go to Retiro, and there’s plenty of parking” or “I can do more than I did before” and “it’s the most efficient car in the household,” concluding with “it’s almost mandatory to have such a car in the household.”

Another proof of true customer acceptance is the success of the car-sharing service ZITY, consisting of a fleet of 800 ZOE in Madrid, which has accumulated over 300,000 users and 27 million kilometers traveled in just two years of operation.
